Alexis Hall always wanted to be the best. From an early age, she set her sights on becoming valedictorian of her high school and attending college on a full-ride scholarship. While she certainly had the academic credentials to receive a scholarship, there was one obstacle in the way: standardized tests.

Alexis was the number one student in her class, but did not have a high enough ACT score for colleges to consider giving her a full ride. She had previously taken both the SAT and the ACT, but a combination of factors had prevented her from reaching her highest potential score. One of those obstacles was overcoming the challenges of ADHD from a young age.
She reached out to Clay Daniel at Clayborne to improve her score. Though sessions had to take place online because Alexis lives in a different state, Clay willingly worked with Alexis to understand the methodology for standardized test-taking.
Alexis credits Clay for overcoming some of the technical and logistical issues that came with online tutoring to help her feel more comfortable as a student. She noted that Clay’s expertise of how the ACT worked and what graders were looking for in the test was invaluable. Alexis also mentioned that Clay’s insights helped her realize that the ACT was the test for which she had the highest aptitude.
As a result of her tutoring with Clayborne, Alexis achieved a monumental improvement on her ACT, moving from an initial 25-point score to a 35-point score. Reaching this goal allowed Alexis to receive full-tuition scholarships from both the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at Dallas. Alexis is currently finishing up her degree in neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas. She hopes to work in public policy as a mental health advocate, using her background in psychology and cognitive development to help shape policy decisions.
